Two Louisville organizations are teaming up with programs designed to improve living conditions and preserve historic architecture in our community and we were blessed to be asked to lend them a helping hand.
Preservation Louisville & Preservation S.O.S
Preservation Louisville is a grassroots effort to help preserve the small-town character of Louisville, including introducing initiatives for smart growth control and historic preservation. One of their programs, Preservation S.O.S (Save Our Shotguns), is meant to educate our community about Louisville’s large inventory of historic shotgun houses and what role they played in Louisville’s history. Preservation S.O.S involves shotgun-style home preservation projects that highlight and promote restoration of the existing housing stock of shotgun homes in Louisville.
New Directions Housing Corp. & Repair Affair
New Directions Housing Corp. creates and preserves affordable housing with residents and neighborhood stakeholders. Repair Affair is a New Directions program that mobilizes resources and volunteers to make repairs on homes owned by low income homeowners who are elderly or disabled. The focus of Repair Affair is on home safety, security, weatherizing, and neighborhood stability. It is not a decorating, remodeling or emergency repair program. Most repairs are completed in one day.
Lending Our Helping Hands And A New Front Door
The project home, in the Algonquin neighborhood, was in desperate need of help. Our contribution was the purchase and installation of a replacement front door. Our partner Provia Products who manufactured the entry door system also contributed to the project. When the final touches were made, the transformation was amazing. See some “Before” photos below to see for yourself. You can read more about the project on the Preservation Louisville website.
Congratulations To All On A Successful Partnership
