FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE – Louisville, KY – Door Store and Windows of Louisville, Kentucky is pleased to announce that Louisville architect, Mary Herd Jackson, is one of 25 finalists for the Architects Challenge 2014 Showdown sponsored by Marvin Windows and Doors. Door Store and Windows, a locally owned and operated window and door replacement specialist, is a Marvin dealer and provided the Marvin windows and doors for Jackson’s project. The Marvin Architects Challenge 2014 Showdown is a people’s choice voting format that started with 133 projects competing for the award. The next round concludes on Sunday, June 29 with the top 5 finalists continuing in the competition.
“Mary’s project uses windows to take advantage of beautiful views of the homeowner’s flower garden and green space and to bring in natural light where it is needed. She really brought the outdoors in for this home,” says Ann Gregory, co-owner of The Door Store and Windows along with her sister, Laurie Scarborough. Laurie adds, “We love supporting our local community and Mary is the only Kentucky architect in the competition. Her project has gotten a wonderful response in the voting, but only the top 5 vote-getters advance to the next round. We’re asking everyone we know to support our Louisville talent and vote for Mary’s project.”
Enhancing Spaces and Creating Picturesque Views
Jackson’s project is a suburban Louisville home addition/remodel designed to enhance the living and entertaining spaces for the homeowners. The project features Marvin windows and doors throughout the home. As part of the addition, the kitchen was gutted, rearranged and enlarged to improve the function, circulation and aesthetics. The kitchen window now offers a picturesque view of the homeowner’s flower garden while the kitchen workspace, storage and utility has been significantly improved.
An existing bay window area in the kitchen was retooled to add a built-in banquette for improved seating and storage and new windows for additional natural light. The bay extends to the second floor and was transformed to provide access to an upstairs office and master bedroom porch from the master bedroom. Three walls of windows in the upstairs office along with a large window and door to the porch all combine to illuminate the master bedroom.
A Team Approach
The Door Store and Windows is proud to be the Marvin Windows and Doors dealer for this project and congratulates Mary on her accomplishment. Louisville builder, Doug Amlung of Amlung Construction, provided a team of outstanding craftsmen to help bring Jackson’s vision to life.
Voting for the Marvin Architects Challenge 2014 Showdown continues through Sunday, June 29 after which the top 5 finalists will compete for the top spot. Voting takes place on Marvin’s website at www.marvin.com and votes can be cast once each day through June 29.
Tour This Home In September
The project will also be a part of the AIA/CKC Architect’s House Tour on Sunday, September 7. Sponsored by the Central Kentucky Chapter of the American Institute of Architects, the Architect’s House Tour features homes that acknowledge the proportions, light and comfort that come from a professionally designed living environment.
