Door Store and Windows (TDSW) is proud to announce that they are a 2018 Better Business Bureau (BBB) Torch Award winner in the small business category. The BBB Torch Awards recognize businesses and non-profits in small, medium and large categories for their exceptional ethical practices.
TDSW takes great pride in their attention to ethical practices. Efforts to be transparent include a clear mission statement, posters and placards featuring their seven core values placed around the showroom, extensive employee screening, and much more. It is important to TDSW to be completely transparent and honest with their customers.
“We had surrounded ourselves with teammates we trusted, who represented our business with the same attitude, dedication and behaviors as ourselves,” TDSW Co-Owner, Laurie Scharborough says. “It became time to codify our values and our entire company spent two half-day sessions brainstorming and developing our seven core values.”

We love supporting our community whenever we can. Each year we work with a number of organizations donating our time or money to a cause that is close to our hearts. This year we have had the great pleasure of working with Dogs Helping Heroes (DHH) on two separate promotions. As we learned more about the organization and the incredible heroes they support, we became more and more passionate about their mission. Our goal was to raise the $4,500 required to train a new service dog for a deserving veteran.
As many of you know, in June we worked with WHAS11 to raise awareness for our promotion to donate $11 of every door and window sale to DHH. During this event we got pretty close to our goal, but we weren’t done yet!
In September, we had the opportunity to host an event promoting DHH in our showroom. We worked with Duffy’s Dog Training to conduct dog training demonstrations during the event. These demonstrations allowed patrons to see the time and energy that goes into training a dog for a deserving veteran. Food for the event was provided by Mission BBQ, an avid DHH supporter, and the Cheddar Box. Anyone attending this event had the opportunity to enter a drawing to win a golden retriever door knocker. James Day, one of the heroes working with DHH, was the lucky winner! Thanks to everyone who came out to support DHH. We reached our goal and DHH can now train a brand new service dog!

We’re so excited to announce that through these two promotions we were able to raise a total of $4635, more than enough to train a new service dog. We had the opportunity choose a name for the new dog. We chose Marvin, a tribute to one of our best-selling brands, Marvin Windows and Doors.
Thank you again to everyone who supported DHH through these promotions. We are so excited to have had the opportunity to work with this incredible organization and support an incredible cause.

Dogs Helping Heroes Representative, Judy Wilson, shared their mission and values with customers attending the event.
Most locals know that Old Louisville is full of fantastic architecture and beautiful older homes. What many may not know is that there are some of the most beautiful private gardens in this area as well. This weekend you are able to tour several of these incredible gardens and outdoor spaces in The 25th Annual Old Louisville Hidden Treasures Garden Tour. One of our passions is helping to preserve, protect and refresh our area’s historic homes. All proceeds from this event will be used to preserve and improve this historic area in our community and we are thrilled to be a part of the event!
As a special treat, four of the gardens open this year have never before been open to the public! The entire route is walkable, and begins at the Conrad-Caldwell House Museum where you will find vendor tables, auctions and other items nearby. We hear that a few of the carriage houses will also be open for tours.
Worried about getting over heated? We’ve got you covered! This year The Door Store and Windows are the event “Fan Sponsors”, which means we are contributing a hand fan. This fan is your ticket into each garden. You’ll want to hold onto it, because it will also offer free admission to the Conrad-Caldwell Museum at a later date.

As a token of our gratitude for those who have served in our Nation’s Armed Forces we are donating $11 from the sale of each window or door through June 30 to Dogs Helping Heroes.
Dogs Helping Heroes is a local nonprofit organization dedicated to helping our wounded heroes and the families of those who have been lost in service to our Nation. The organization was born when a professional dog trainer, David Bernson, noticed how much a service dog was helping his brother-in-law, a wounded veteran, live a fulfilling life. Today they rescue dogs from shelters, train them as service animals, and place them with wounded military and first responders. The mission of this organization is to improve their lives, as well as to help Gold Star Families cope with their losses.

In celebration of our 20th anniversary, we want to take a look back at some of the milestones of our business.
October 1, 1997 – Ann Gregory and her father, John Gregory open The Door Store in Hikes Point Shopping Center on Taylorsville Road with partner, David Doctor. Focusing exclusively on replacement doors, The Door Store was a unique concept for the Louisville market.
1998 – Within the first year, the Door Store installs its 100th door and starts to establish itself as an expert in Louisville door replacement.
2003 – The Door Store becomes Door Store and Windows as the company adds window products to meet customer needs for a replacement window and door company with outstanding design and installation expertise. In 2006, the company becomes an authorized installing retailer for Marvin Windows and Doors and quickly becomes one of Marvin’s star dealers.
July 4, 2005 – Door Store and Windows moves from Hikes Point Plaza on Taylorsville Road to a highly visible and easily accessible location on Shelbyville Road. The new office/showroom facility more than triples the available showroom space for the company and adds office and warehousing space.
March 2006 – As Door Store and Windows continues its growth, Ann’s sister, Laurie Scarborough joins the firm for a “temporary” period of time to help with strategic planning, marketing, accounting and operations. Nearly ten years later, Laurie finally trades her fold-up table for a real desk and takes on a partnership role in the business.
The heart of Door Store and Windows is the team. Every member has been critical to the success of the business. Several team member additions signaled major changes and milestones for the company. Craig Rowe was hired as Lead Installer and Installation Manager in 2006. Don Erickson was brought in to establish the new construction division of the business in 2009. Virginia Bell took on CFO duties in 2015 and has recently assumed the role of Operations Manager.
2013 – Finding the best manufacturer/partners has always been a key to Door Store and Windows’ success. The company evaluates and scrutinizes every partner and found a gem with ProVia Doors. ProVia has been producing high quality entry, patio and storm doors in Ohio’s Amish country for almost 40 years and truly meets high standards of excellence.
2014 – Despite difficult prevailing economic conditions from the financial crisis and the associated housing collapse, Door Store and Windows finds the right combination of great value and outstanding customer service to continue its sales growth and receive Marvin’s highest dealer recognition – the Marvin President’s Club award – for the first time. Every year since then, the company has been awarded the Marvin President’s Club award and the ProVia Platinum Club award in the same year.
2016 – Door Store and Windows is named Window & Door Magazine 2016 National Dealer of the Year. As the first Kentucky company to be awarded this honor, the company is profiled on the cover of the window and door industry’s top national publication, Window & Door Magazine, and established as a nationally-recognized industry leader.
October 1, 2017 – Door Store and Windows rings in their 20th anniversary and will celebrate by honoring the team members, stake holders, vendor/partners and, of course, the local community for helping create outstanding customer experiences for Louisville homeowners for two decades.
